What neighborhoods are fun? I am looking to stay somewhere with bars and restaurants within walking distance. I'm going with my girlfriend, both of us in our 20's. Are there any cool places I should know about?
I'd rather not stay in a business district unless there are still things to do and see in that neighborhood on the weekend.
Thanks for any tips!Where should I stay in Pittsburgh?
The first thing you need to do is select the area you want to party in. There are basically 3 such areas in Pittsburgh for the 20 something crowd.
1. Southside ( E. Carson Street). There is a Holiday Inn Express located within walking distance of probably 100 bars. There is not a lot of trouble in that area. Police watch it closely. You would have your choice of any kind of music. At the far end is the Southside Works with a Cheesecake Factory, Hoffbrau House, and more.
2. The Strip District. There are not as many bars but still a good time. Check out Lefty's for the best $4.00 Mojito in town. Go there on a Saturday afternoon. Tell the bartender the mint plant guy sent you. Deluca's or Pamela's are a must for breakfast. Primanti Brothers, Harp %26amp; Fiddle, Rolands and more are all on the same street, There is a bar there in an old church called the Altar Bar. They have bands. There are several nightclubs there. I believe it's a Hampton Inn that was just build there.
3. Station Square. Sheraton Inn. There a lot of chain bars there. Hard Rock, Bucca de Beppa, Joes Crab Shack. Right on the river. The Grand Concouse is a very nice restaurant build in an old Train Station. There bar is the Gandy Dancer and its a lot of fun. This area is about a mile from the Southside.
Where ever you go, have fun!
Thank you for the excellent advice! I booked the Holiday Inn Express, and am looking forward to my get-away. You really went above and beyond in your answer. You must be a local; you clearly have a lot of town pride. If you ever want tips on things to see and do in Baltimore, you know who to ask!
