How to start my own business....?

I'm in the process of starting my own business but this is my first time with business endeavors such as this and I'm terrified that I'm going to overlook something serious. Does anyone know (step-by-step even) which steps I need to take to get this thing going? It will be a bakery (specializing in gourmet cupcakes, individual and for parties, events, etc. but will also offer cakes, other pastries, gourmet candy as well as vegan options) and for now I would just like for it to be home-based if at all possible. Can anyone point me in the right direction??How to start my own business....?
Like Phillip said, a business plan is a good place to start. I would look into getting information and advice from SBA or your local SCORE chapter. They will have many resources to assist and will have sample business plans and tips to write your own.

I don't think anyone can just "tell you step by step" what to do. But every business needs advice and help.

I know a lowcost business service for home-based businesses. It's really very good. It will give you advice from professional consultants to answer your every question on every aspect of your business.

Get any question answered within 24 hours, including legal, marketing, human reasources, technology, advertising, regulatory, accounting, tax. Everything to help you be more successful.

Would you like to hear about it? email dennygomez@yahoo.com
I would get in touch with your local business link. They are there to help people like you with business plans etc.

Can even help with grants etc.
First off calculate your pricing, see how much your raw materials will cost you and see if your price can keep you competitive in the market. Check you facility in this case your kitchen for throughout, see how much you can actually produce in a day. Mention to your family and friends that you are considering doing this and see if you can get some small orders filled before you officially open your doors. You need to get a taxpayers license this will vary between city, county, state etc. Once you have figured out how much you can make (both as throughput of goods and of cash in the door). Start writing your business plan. While you would undoubtedly cater to any potential customer try to specialize a little bit at first focus on doing one thing really well and build a reputation that way.
Well starting business is something that require persistent as you cannot started pulling all the required crowd a day you start, but you can follow this simple advice it can also help you.

Firstly, Know the kind of people that will require your service and go to them to advertise your services. (i.e. you can go to some shops, supermarket, schools, club, cyber cafe and so on to advertise your service by discussing with the official there about the service you rendered). You can also go to a place like Filling Station and Game Centre to talk with some officials in order for you to put your product there to be selling and before you know it you are there reaping profit.

Secondly, Create a signboard infront of your house advertising your service, which people can also by this advert contact you. Make sure you put your phone number also in the signboard because some people may not have time to come to you but once they have your phone number they can easily call you for service.

Thirdly, advertise through your friend by telling them your new service and if possible let me taste some of the pastries you made in order for them to also inform there friend about your services.

After that kindly treat any customer that come your way well and make sure you satisfy such customer and i promise you he/she will always want to come back and even advertise your service to other people he/she know.

I wish you a good business.

I have a friend who has a very similar business, www.notjustfrosting.com , baking cakes out of her home. Another friend is a webdesigner who designed her website... since the website has been made she is really noticing so much more business. I would strongly recommend getting a website. Take a look at notjustfrosting.com and if you like it check out the webdeigners site http://www.todayshomemaker.com/sjoystudios/

She has really great prices that are below the going price for web designs- and as you will see she does an amazing job!
Use this basic checklist to make sure all the important steps are taken before you launch your new venture. This business checklist will make sure that you cross all your t's and dot all your i's before your business launch.
