We went out to Cracker Barrel for breakfast this morning. We ordered our food and when it came, we noticed some things. First, my sister didn't get her breakfast when we ordered it and by the time she got it, we were all finished. They forgot my apples for my pancakes. They didn't get me whipped cream on my hot chocolate. They forgot my mom's side of bacon and didn't give her the biscuits that went with her meal. They completely forgot about it. They said they would bring it out but instead, they brought out a bill. I also asked for saussage links but they gave me saussage patty. It wasn't even that busy. We didn't leave any tip. We looked around at their little store after we ate and bought one of the peg games. They were missing 2 pieces and did not give back the right ammount of change. Was that fair or unfair for us not to leave a tip?

Il n'茅tait pas 茅gal qu'occup茅. Est-ce que ce juste ou injuste pour nous pas cong茅 茅tait un bout ?Is this unfair? Anyone else have trouble at this restaurant?
I have never been to this particular restaurant, however as the Service Manager at a major chain restaurant I would say that the service you received was unacceptable. That being said, I understand from your additional details that the management at the restaurant was not responsive to your complaints. I would visit their website, generally websites have some sort of "contact us" or feedback section. Fill out the information completely, and give honest (but not rude, your description here would suffice I would say) criticisms about your experience. These messages usually go to the General Manager, Area Manager, and/or the corporate office, someone should hear your complaint and do something about it.
As for the tip, coming from someone that used to depend on tips for a living, I would never leave less than a 10% tip, even for horrible service. It isn't the servers fault that the management was not receptive, and most of the time there is some sort of food expediter that is preparing the food to go out. She may not have realized the problem until it was too late, and there is only so much that the server is able to do in her realm of responsibilities.
i have always had good service at cracker barrelIs this unfair? Anyone else have trouble at this restaurant?
I think what you did is a good response to the level of service you received.
Did you mention the problems to the server or manager? If they don't know there were problems, then leaving no tip just makes them question you as a person rather than the service they (didn't) provide.
Not leaving a tip is rude. Everything you mentioned is the cooks fault. Except the whipped cream.
The failures here fell on your waitperson, who did not earn a tip for quality of service. I'm sure the meal cost you plenty and that's unfair enough. When we customers bring our money to pay outrageous prices for food and $2.00 per drink, we are reasonable to expect them to put their best forward and make our experience enjoyable. Tips are a gift, not an obligation. Few more tables not tipping or returning, Cracker barrel will improve. In this economy, there's no room for slop service and $$ for meals that are spent dealing with constant errors.
I wouldn't have left a tip either.
Insisting on speaking with the restaurant manager would have been a good idea in this instance. A good manager would not hesitate to to compensate you in some way with a money refund, discount, extra food, etc. And notifying the manager of poor service would hopefully prompt him to speak with the waitstaff and kitchen staff.
I would not have left a tip either. That was lousy service and you should have received your meals for free. They should have comped you. Shame on them. This isn't the first time I have heard this about the Cracker Barrel.
I would make a complaint to the head office:

NO, not unfair at all. A good tip is for a good waitress and if you crappy service (which is obviously what you got) then you don't get a tip at all from me. And I believe in tipping! I would have even went as far as to have asked to speak to a manager and told him/her about my service. Most managers want to know these things...especially if it's running off business. And, in most cases, the manager will offer you a free meal, or a coupon or something to compensate you.
